From time to time, we will post a blog article on topics that relate to what we do - helping nonprofit organizations use technology better. Below are our blog posts in chronologically descending order.
The 48HL Event, hosted by The Company Lab, is an event for entrepreneurs to develop their business idea with the help of volunteers and to show what they accomplished 48 hours later. An event that has occurred for a couple of years, the 48HL is quickly becoming popular among startups in Chattanooga. Next week, another 48HL begins Friday evening (November 11, 2011), and concludes the following Sunday evening. Smooth Stone Services has chosen to participate in this event.
There are thousands of webhosting companies in business today, and while many provide great service, the market is saturated with companies that provide less-than-stellar service at low prices.
The following are 3 broad suggestions that I gave to a nonprofit organization who I used to work for full time, in administering their servers, in an email (which I just wrote for free). While Smooth Stone Services does provide consulting and server administration services, the following are some best practices that I have no problem "giving away". Incidentally, we hope that this article will help our potential (future) system administration clients in determining that we really do know what we're talking about, and we really do have your best interests in mind.
Smooth Stone Services is committed to providing excellent customer service. As it says on our home page, "Our mission is to provide affordable information technology services to organizations seeking to transform poor communities around the world, and to provide a crucial role in a community’s transformation by providing technology education and jobs to its members." We feel that the best way for us to do this is to provide quality web hosting and technology solutions.
